  • Press Statement (Sept. 26, 2012)

    September 26, 2012.

    Press Statement

The recent statement by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the spokesman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) blaming the Federal Government for the flood disasters in some parts of the country is yet another opportunistic attempt to remind Nigerians that they still exist.

In their desperate attempt to remain heard, the Party has once more thrown decency and the dignity of the human being to the winds. While the wounds of the .disaster are still festering, the ACN has seen yet another window to play politics and grandstand rather than sympathize with the people over this unfortunate happening.

The ACN in its statement even went to ridiculous extents like condemning the closure of the Abuja Lokoja road which is a precautionary measure taken to save lives following this disaster. While we welcome constructive criticisms meant to keep us on our toes, we shall not succumb to cheap politicking from political jobbers who do not know when to draw boundaries between partisanship and National humanitarian interests.

The ACN's unnecessary politicization of this force majeure is an indication of their insensitivity to the plights of the victims. They would rather scavenge for political capita

“The primary concern of the PDP is to ensure the welfare of the generality of Nigerians. We know full well that the opinion of the people in every government policy and action matters a lot if we must achieve this cardinal premise of our manifesto. This is the essence of this decision by the President to reverse the introduction of the N5000.”

    PRESS RELEASE

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to go rise beyond road side sophistry and accept that the party and its National Leader, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu traded on fraudulent claims when they lied to Nigerians that Tinubu was sent a gold card invitation by the Democratic Party of the United States to attend its recent national convention. The PDP also advised the ACN to apologise to Nigerians for embarrassing the nation and for bridging our proud people to ridicule before a foreign political party.

“This matter in question explains itself in clear terms. The ACN tried to force its dish of lies down the throat of Nigerians on the imaginary international exposure and connection of its national leader.  This attempt by the party to ingeniously tap from the credibility of an American political institution through a spurious claim backfired. The Democratic Party Convention officials would have none of that and wasted no time in denying the ACN and Bola Tinubu. The implication of this on the image of Nigeria and on the pride of our good people is wantonly damaging.”

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh said that because the ACN thrives in fraud

    Press Statement

Our attention has been drawn to strange publications purporting that our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party is undergoing another process of Constitutional amendment to guarantee automatic tickets to some incumbent office holders for second terms.

The authors of this alien idea insinuated that we want to model our internal nomination process after the practice in the United States of America.

We have received several calls from concerned Party members for clarifications following this misleading publication.

In order to set the records straight, the PDP wishes to clearly state as follows:-

    1.    The Party is not involved in any process to amend its Constitution at the moment. The 2012 amended copy is now the grand norm of the Party and we intend to strictly abide by its provision. The PDP does not exist solely for the purpose of perpetual amendments of its Constitution.

    2.    We have already made our position known that holders of elective positions can only secure another term based on their performance and their acceptance by the people in a free and fair primary election where all party members shall be guaranteed a

     PRESS RELEASE

The Peoples Democratic Party says the revelation by the Democratic Party of the United States that no special invitation or recognition was given to the Action Congress of Nigeria or its leader, Senator Bola Tinubu at its recent National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, contrary to what the ACN propaganda machine has fed the Nigerian public with, has once more exposed the lie that the party constantly lives in order to court the attention of Nigerians. The PDP also said that such deceitful postures and needless bare faced lies by the ACN is a tragedy capable of inculcating negative values in the growing generation of Nigerian politicians.

"The usual desperation of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Party to court attention at all cost has taken an international dimension. This time, Senator Tinubu who prides himself as the National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has been basking in a delusory frenzy of being 'specially invited' to the just concluded Democratic National Convention which held in Charllotte, North Carolina in the United States of America."

"When the former British Prime Minister,

    2nd September 2012.

     PRESS RELEASE

The Peoples Democratic Party has asked the former Head of State and the Presidential Candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 general elections, General Muhammadu Buhari to show statesmanship in his assessment of the contributions of the PDP led Federal Government to the cause of democracy and good governance.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, the Party said that political differences notwithstanding, it expected Buhari as an elder statesman and  a former Head of State to acknowledge the significant progress that Nigeria has made in internalising democratic culture since the return of democracy in 1999.

“There is still room for improvement no doubt, but Nigeria under the PDP has recorded tremendous gains in terms of advancing the rule of law and the fundamental rights of Nigerians, in deed, in other indices of good governance which democracy is usually expected to guarantee.”

We recall that while on a visit to Kano last week, General Buhari had said of the PDP led Federal Government; “under normal circumstances we are supposed to work strictly within the provisions of the constitution, but this is Nigeria and nothing is perfect

News Flash

 Press Statement

The attention of the South East Zone of the People's Democratic Party has been drawn to spurious publications in a section of the media alleging unfounded claims of bias against the Hon Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah in the recruitment exercise carried out by some parastatals in her ministry.

The leadership of our great Party in the southeast makes bold to state categorically that this baseless allegation is yet another futile attempt by opposition elements to smear the image of the Minister and denigrate her well earned reputation as a distinguished Nigerian and a worthy assets of our great Party, the PDP.

Princess Oduah, though a proud daughter of the Southeast zone, has proven herself to be a detribalized Nigerian both in her private business and in the discharge of her duties as Minister. The current massive upgrading of airports in all the geopolitical zones in the country bear testimony to this.

We are proud to observe that Princess Oduah's performance in office is a major plank of President Jonathan's transformation agenda.

These sponsored provocative publications are designed by opposition elements who are envious of her sterling performance and who feel threatened by her rising profile as a dedicated minister and exemplary member of our great Party.

For the records, Princess Oduah is not involved directly or indirectly in staff recruitment of any parastatal under her. There is a well established bureaucracy to handle such matters while she concerns herself with the huge task of driving the well applauded reforms in the aviation sector.
