Federal Government committed to providing affordable Healthcare Services to Nigerians. V.P  Sambo

Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo has said that the President Goodluck Jonathan administration places high premium in providing affordable and world class healthcare services to Nigerians.

Arc Sambo who stated this at the commissioning of the National Staff Hospital, Abuja, donated by the Chinese Government, on Monday, January 28, observed that the health sector was a critical priority of the UN MDGs, added that its importance was also reflected in the country’s national development objectives, particularly in the Vision 20:2020 and the Transformation Agenda.

“This administration is committed to the provision of quality and affordable healthcare for all Nigerians, the improvement of the quality of life, and the achievement of defined goals and targets.”

He therefore stated that the administration through a deliberate policy of improving technology, human capital, and infrastructure and in collaboration with the private sector is improving all healthcare institutions across the country, adding that this is yielding positive results.

Vice President Sambo while acknowledging the longstanding relations between Nigeria and China, which spanned over four decades, said “the construction of this hospital which will serve very useful purposes in improving the health status of millions of Nigerians, marks yet another milestone in Nigeria — China relationship. This is why today's commissioning ceremony is very important to us as a country.

He also used the opportunity to express the gratitude of Nigeria to the government and good people of the Peoples Republic of China, saying “China has been a very reliable ally of Nigeria in her development quest for several decades, not just in the health sector but also in other areas of national life.”

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Deng Boqing, in his remark said the one hundred and fifty-bed hospital built at the cost of twelve million US Dollars, was part of agreement reached under the China-Africa Cooperation adopted in 2006. Mr. Boqing said, the Chinese government will continue to support Nigeria in achieving its development plan and transformation agenda.

Speaking the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu pledged that the facility would be maintained to serve the purpose. He said that the Ministry in complementing the Chinese effort built a twelve flats staff quarters and other infrastructure for enhanced and prompt service delivery to Nigerians.

The contract for the 150-Bed National Staff Hospital, built at a total cost of US$12.5 was signed on August 7, 2009, with actual work commencing on May 20, 2010 and by April 2012, the Hospital project had been completed and fully equipped with all necessary facilities.

i wish to appreciate your new policy on productivity and infact this help to develop human capacity building which will no distant time transform the country educationally.. Well-done the federal executive council. Although my contribution is in the area of physical development which i feel will also go inline in supporting the president transformation agenda and that is, he should look inward as per reducing cost of rail construction by making use of local production of Rail lines from Ajaokuta Steel company which has Medium Structural Mill{MSM} purposely meant for rolling Rail lines and structural beams. Secondly, the various fabrication shops in the plant can be used for the fabrication of different spare parts for the rail construction and even for turn around maintenance of the Refinery plants and provide parts for the new Greenfield refineries in Bayelsa State a Lagos and that of Igbogiri in Kogi state, .

 Press Statement

The attention of the South East Zone of the People's Democratic Party has been drawn to spurious publications in a section of the media alleging unfounded claims of bias against the Hon Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah in the recruitment exercise carried out by some parastatals in her ministry.

The leadership of our great Party in the southeast makes bold to state categorically that this baseless allegation is yet another futile attempt by opposition elements to smear the image of the Minister and denigrate her well earned reputation as a distinguished Nigerian and a worthy assets of our great Party, the PDP.

Princess Oduah, though a proud daughter of the Southeast zone, has proven herself to be a detribalized Nigerian both in her private business and in the discharge of her duties as Minister. The current massive upgrading of airports in all the geopolitical zones in the country bear testimony to this.

We are proud to observe that Princess Oduah's performance in office is a major plank of President Jonathan's transformation agenda.

These sponsored provocative publications are designed by opposition elements who are envious of her sterling performance and who feel threatened by her rising profile as a dedicated minister and exemplary member of our great Party.

For the records, Princess Oduah is not involved directly or indirectly in staff recruitment of any parastatal under her. There is a well established bureaucracy to handle such matters while she concerns herself with the huge task of driving the well applauded reforms in the aviation sector.
